About Us

SURGE arose from three Coventry University research centres - the Centre for Local Economic Development, the Centre for Social Justice and the Rural Restructuring Research Group - coming together to provide a holistic approach to sustainable regeneration issues.

We adopt an applied way of working and focus on bringing the social and economic aspects of regeneration together.  As such, the research we conduct constantly strives to find linkages and relationships between the economic and social elements of regeneration; bridging gaps in knowledge to help business and society to achieve a more equal, just and sustainable society for the future.

Mission Statement

“To provide high quality evidence based applied research, consultancy, education and training services, informing policy and practice and supporting business and society to achieve sustainable regeneration through economic and social development.”

Core Business Principles

A set of core business principles underpins and guides SURGE’s approach. We aim to offer services in sustainable regeneration that are:

  • Accessible and collaborative
  • Change focused
  • Ethical
  • Evidence based and sustainable
  • Innovative and forward looking
  • Participatory and inclusive
  • Reliable, realistic and good value for money

Our Location

SURGE is based at the Futures Institute at Coventry Innovation Village.  Located alongside SURGE is the Institute of Community Cohesion (iCoCo).  This proximity allows for increased opportunities to explore new synergies and cross-cutting research areas, mutually drawing on additional expertise in related fields.
