From vertical to horizontal and all places in-between (Sarah Whatley)

Reflections on four decades of dancing and making

View the presentation

Sarah WatleySarah Whatley reflected upon her journey as dance artist, teacher and researcher, observing how these interdependent strands give rise to her fascination with dance and the dancing body as knowledge producing and a site of research.

As the youngest artform to enter the academy and establish its own intellectual discourse she muses on the ontology of dance performance; its ephemeral nature; its simultaneous presence and absence; and its resistance to being written down.

By exploring the dancing body as archive and the archive as meaning maker, she moved through her story, with live and filmed performance, to illuminate and celebrate the art of dance.
