About SaFe
Digital Security & Forensics Applied Research Group
The Applied Research Group (ARG) in Digital Security and Forensics (SaFe) at Coventry University was established in 2006. The group aims to advance technical knowledge in the broad area of digital security and computer forensics, disseminate and exploit this knowledge.
We also aim to:
- undertake applied research into various aspects of digital forensics and system security issues
- offer related educational research opportunities
- develop technical products and software
- provide consultancy services in data recovery, incident response, computer and mobile device forensics, system and network security assessment / penetration testing (ethical hacking).
The group not only has a team of experts from various subjects including electronics, communications, computing, digital forensics and ethical hacking, but also has state-of-art laboratory facilities such as dedicated forensics workstations, commercial forensics tools like EnCase, Ultimate Forensic Toolkit, and open source forensic tools, etc.
The ongoing research and development includes:
- development of mobile forensics toolkit
- malware analysis
- data recovery for damaged storage media
- customized Linux forensic DVD/CD for educational purposes.
