Passenger Safety
Research is being undertaken to simulate the early stages of airbag deployment. The work is centred on the interaction of airbag deployment and an out of position vehicle occupant, this is when an occupant is unbelted or sitting too close to the location of the stored airbag.
In this situation injury may occur if the inflating bag impacts onto the occupant. The aim is to gain a better understanding of the important airbag parameters that influence the cause of injury and ultimately lead to the reduction in development time and costs.
