Intelligent Transportation Systems

The work in this area is aimed into the design and implementation of automotive telemetry, telematics and advanced control systems.

An automotive on-board diagnostic system allows car parameter monitoring and a voice synthesizer module gives warning to the driver if the parameters exceed predefined thresholds. A GPS receiver and Inertial Navigation System (INS), based on a solid-state gyroscope and 2-axis accelerometer, provide accurate continuously updated information about the vehicle position.

The information from the telemetry and navigation systems is transmitted to a base station using a spread-spectrum modulation module. This information can be used for vehicle tracking, road congestion analysis and optimal traffic control.
