Cogent Computing Applied Research Centre
I joined Coventry University in 2004 with the goal of attaining an MSc in Software Engineering. My previous career had been in the area of commercial software development and I felt that acquiring a postgraduate qualification would help in furthering my career goals.
In fulfilling the requirements of the degree I embarked on a Masters research project with the Cogent Computing Applied Research Centre. Although the area of wireless sensor networks was completely new to me, the project proved to be interesting and challenging. It really whetted my appetite and opened up in my mind the possibility of doing further research. After graduating an opportunity came to work with the research centre while furthering my postgraduate studies. I jumped at the chance.
A year later, my experience working and studying here at Coventry University has been an extremely positive one. The ever-expanding areas of pervasive computing and wireless sensor networks (the centre's main research themes) present opportunities for novel research and the potential for making a meaningful contribution to the field.
The Cogent Computing Applied Research Centre and Coventry University have been extremely supportive in providing the necessary assistance and training but more importantly in encouraging creativity within the research itself.
I would encourage anyone thinking of pursuing a research degree to seriously consider the programmes offered here at Coventry.
