BIOCORE Applied Research Group
I joined Coventry University in December 2005 to undertake my PhD to formulate a integrative telemedicine framework for Malaysia. This work is being carried out in the Biomedical Computing and Engineering Technologies (BIOCORE) Applied Research Group in close collaboration with the Ministry of Health in Malaysia.
My first and second degree was in the field of Computer Science specialising in Real-time Software Engineering from Malaysia University of Technology. I have 16 years industrial experience in commercial systems development but changed my career path from industry to academia at one of Malaysia’s Public Universities in September 2003.
Choosing Coventry University was easy. In 2005, my Government offered me the opportunity to further my studies by way of a PhD in the UK. I explored several options and offers from various UK universities. I chose Coventry University (and particularly BIOCORE) as their competencies and experience exactly matched my proposed research project.
I enjoy doing the research work under my supervisory team (Dr Rajeev Bali, Prof Raouf Naguib and Prof Ian Marshall) which has cross-disciplinary expertise and a supportive and flexible approach in resolving academic issues. The motivation and encouragement received from them allows me to enjoy a good work-life balance; I am able to work on my research as well as spend time with my wife and five children.
Living in Coventry and studying for my PhD here has given me the opportunity to explore the various cultures and backgrounds of a range of people.
