In 1995/96 Coventry University was a partner to my university in Germany. This allowed me to complete the final year in Medical Instrumentation at Coventry and at the same time obtain two degrees – one in Medical Engineering in Germany and one in the UK.
After I graduated I returned to Germany and worked in industry for a short period of time before travelling for a few months. Because of my positive experiences in Coventry I decided to return in 1998 and commenced a PhD project in collaboration with the Walsgrave Hospital. It turned out to be an excellent decision and even before I completed my PhD in Coventry I had several offers to do postdoctoral research in the USA.
The next two years I spent at the University of Washington Medical Centre in Seattle where I was part of an international consortium with some of the world’s leading scientists in radiotherapy. After a three year period as a Clinical Medical Physicist in Würzburg, Germany I have now moved to Christchurch in New Zealand were I am a senior lecturer in Medical Physics.
If I had not studied in Coventry I would probably not be here in New Zealand today. My time at Coventry University was the catalyst for my academic career and opened many possibilities and I am grateful for that.
