About HLI

The Applied Research Centre in Health and Lifestyle Interventions provides high quality applied research, consultancy and training, underpinned by one of its core competences - health psychology. The Centre uses systematic methods to develop and evaluate health behaviour and organisational interventions to improve health and health services. Research spans evidence reviews, intervention development via quantitative and qualitative primary research, intervention testing, e.g., by RCTs, implementation and evaluation, quality improvement, consultancy and knowledge transfer. Programmes include the Health Behaviour Interventions Programme and Health Services Management Interventions Programme. The Centre has established Health Behaviour Research Ltd to commercialise interventions and other intellectual property.
The key foci of the Centre’s activities are the development of interventions in:
- Health Behaviour using intervention mapping/theory driven methods in breastfeeding and teenage sexual behaviour, childhood obesity, exercise and health, and self management of long term health conditions.
- Health Services Management including patient safety research, including wider risk management/clinical governance/evidence based practice and organisational culture research, service improvement and healthcare communications.
