Guidance and support

Student Centre

Starting a part-time degree is a big decision for most people, particularly those who have not studied for a while. The University has a number of ways of helping ease you back into education.

One of the newest additions to the campus is our £5m Student Centre - a unique development that brings together a key range of services:

  • Accommodation
  • Finance
  • Student Funding
  • Careers and Student Employability

Sports Centre

The state-of-the-art Sport and Recreation Centre offers a wide range of classes and activities you can get involved in something fit and fun. Our friendly staff are on hand to show you the ropes so, even if you've never used a gym before, we'll soon have you involved in an activity that's right for you. Part-time students are entitled to a reduced membership rate.

Opening hours

7.30am - 9pm, Mon - Fri
10am - 6pm at weekends

CU-Online

CU-Online enables you and your fellow students to mail one another or your tutor, and even participate in group work over the web. You will find links into materials to support your learning, including the electronic library. Your tutor may also allow you access to module handouts, teaching schedules, guidance, assignments and tests.

Careers and Employability

Although the daytime provision of Careers and Employability (based in the Student Centre) is available for your use, we also offer additional support for part-time students. You can make an early evening appointment with a Careers Adviser at the Student Centre (normally until 6.00pm) or a Careers Adviser is also located in the Jaguar building providing a drop-in service three times per week, including a late evening time slot. You will also be invited to attend workshops, job recruitment and information sessions aimed to address specific career and employment issues.

Spiritual guidance

For spiritual guidance we have a Chaplaincy team representing the Anglican Church, Methodist (Free Church), Roman Catholic, a new Muslim Chaplain, a visiting Minister from the German Lutheran Church, and a network of Christian contacts within the Coventry diocese.

We also provide access through links with non-Christian faiths - and have established contacts with the local Muslim, Sikh, Hindu and Jewish communities. In addition, we have a dedicated Muslim prayer room on campus.

Lanchester Library

The award winning Lanchester Library is a hi-tech centre offering access to a huge range of information for users from all subject areas. We offer a range of services and resources which may be especially useful for part-time students.

Part-time student facilities

  • access to databases
