Professional and Career Development Loan
Students may be able to apply for a Professional and Career Development Loan (PCDL) to help towards costs.
PCDL's are bank loans that can be used to pay for work-related learning. You can borrow between £300 and £10,000 to help support the cost of up to two years of learning (or three years if it includes one year’s relevant unpaid practical work).
Further information on financial assistance to support your learning can be found on the PCDL website.
Research Councils
The biggest providers of postgraduate funding are Research Councils. Competition is tough but between them they offer around 12,000 awards a year to students studying Masters and PhDs.
Please select the Research Council that corresponds to your proposed area of study.
Trusts and charities
Some charities and trusts offer awards to postgraduates, though these are normally quite modest amounts. You can search for support from trust or charity organisations online.
Part-time work
The most common way to fund further study is through earnings from a part-time or full-time job.
