I wanted to further my career in IT, so was looking to study courses in IT and management. It was important for me to choose a course that was relevant to my life in Kenya. The course at Coventry seemed unique and was the only one that I found that met my specific needs.

I started the MBA in Information Technology course in September and the course has exceeded my expectations. I am very happy with my experience so far. The course is relevant and practical and that’s great because I am learning skills to help me get to where I want to be in the future. Everything is geared towards my future career in IT. My lectures are enjoyable and interactive – you get to hear everyone’s opinion.

The Graduate Centre is great for doing team work and is also the perfect place to meet up with friends. I love the fact that even though I am studying in one place, I can interact with people from all over the world, it’s a great advantage that Coventry is so diverse.

The Graduate and Continuing Professional Development centre is a useful place.  I have found the quiet study area particularly useful. I attend the Sports Centre every week – the gym is well equipped and the classes keep you fit.

After graduating I want to work in IT management.  I think that this course will help me get a higher position as well as increasing my knowledge in my chosen area.

The main reason I chose to study at Coventry University was the partnership with my school in China. The partnership meant I could study for just one more year for my undergraduate course.

Coventry University has offered great opportunities for students, such as Erasmus, internship programmes for postgraduates, graduate work opportunities and placements – all of which encourages students to put their knowledge into practice.

At Coventry you get to be really independent with your learning and it’s really flexible. It’s practical learning where you can apply the taught theory to your work rather than just learning the theory. Our course is truly international: we engage with the outside world by sharing ideas with other international students.

The course was well designed and taught well. It gave me a broad view from learning which was not only based on books, but doing business projects gave students a chance to study outside the box and realise how business projects are managed and ran. It helped me to think differently, work academically and co-ordinate effectively.

The lecturers and supervisors here are really helpful and if you communicate properly with them about your understanding of the course work, they’ll always help you out. As long as you prepare properly for the lectures, they’ll help you with anything because they know that you’re here to learn.

The facilities on campus are convenient for students to use at anytime. I took advantage of benefits such as free printing, 24-hour computer rooms and the on-campus Waterstone’s bookshop. The new Student Centre also provides additional assistance for international students, such as careers advices, trips and events.

Outside of my study time, I’ve enjoyed social events, some of which were organised by the International Office. I’ve also worked part time outside the University which has helped me to get involved in the city and meet new people. This has enriched my overseas study life. It’s fantastic!

My plan is to find a job in the UK and I also hope to explore the country and its culture.

My background is in engineering and I wanted to get into management without having to leave the engineering industry so this was the perfect course option for me. This course covers all of the required management aspects, and I feel with an MBA carries more weight in the industry.

The teachers here are really professional and the atmosphere is nice and quiet so it’s great for studying. The Graduate Centre is really helpful and I feel completely at home there. I spend most of my time there, either studying or relaxing in the café. The resources in the library are really good as well.

I had already completed an undergraduate course in this subject so it seemed logical to take it on to postgraduate level. The fact that it’s an internationally recognised course sealed my decision to take it.

The course has been really good so far – there’s a great balance between business and IT. The workload has been quite challenging, and I feel like I’m learning a lot. I’m using databases and studying logistics – key areas that will help gain a greater understanding of management information systems.

I like the teaching style here. All of the lecturers have worked in the industry so they bring practical experience to the course and they treat us like we would be treated in the industry.
The Graduate Centre provides us with a space of our own so that we’re not interrupted by younger students when trying to study.

After the course, I’m keen to get some experience under my belt. A placement would be great but I may even start applying for full-time positions.

I was studying in Bournemouth before I came to Coventry, so it’s a big change. But I like Coventry, it’s compact and convenient with most things you need close by.

I found each module interesting and relevant to what I want go on to do in the future....

I chose the course because Coventry had a good reputation in the field of vehicle design.

The course allowed me to work independently and it’s quite practical – which I like.

There were three projects to complete on my 15-month study programme. I particularly liked the final one because it’s open to your own brief – it’s very creative and there are no boundaries or restrictions. We are given the chance to showcase this final piece of work in the Coventry Transport Museum where industry professionals are invited to visit.

The Vehicle Interiors course I took was new for 2008, so it was a steep learning curve for us all. I found each module interesting and relevant to what I want go on to do in the future.

I’d like to work for a car company developing vehicle interiors. I know the economic climate isn’t great at present, but I still aim to start applying for posts soon. In the meantime I’m working on building up my portfolio.

I studied my undergraduate degree in Physiotherapy here in Coventry, so I knew all about the great facilities, the high standard of teaching and the reputation of the course. Coventry really is a leader in this field and the reputation of the course is highly regarded in the profession.

I work for the NHS in London who allow me to study one day a week on the course.

The journey to Coventry is really easy; it’s less than an hour from London on the train. I feel a certain sense of pride when I tell people in my field that I’m studying for my Masters in Coventry because I know that it brings with it a certain level of kudos.

I’ve only been doing the course for 2 months but it feels like home. I did the Media Production course here too. I enjoyed studying so much and the help from the staff is brilliant. Support is great. I stayed on because of the relationships built up with staff.

I chose Global media and communication because I wanted to expand my knowledge of the world media. Since I had done a media production course on my BA, I wanted a more theoretical aspect of the global media.

The best things about the course is its exploration of media beyond country borders, the help that lectures provide, the wider range of modules that are included in the course and the students of all backgrounds that you meet.

I did work experience at a local film company(Creative Day film company)on my BA, with the help of the university. I have also completed a lot of projects which include filming in New York and Italy.

I want to work in Birmingham or London after my master’s course in a multi-media broadcast company or a film company. I would like to set up my own multi-media consultancy/broadcast company in Uganda in the near future.

If the chance comes for further education, I will grab it with both hands, but as an international student, it’s hard to think about it because of the cost.

The best thing about Coventry is the opportunities offered to students. I did a work placement with one of the best film companies in Coventry which I got through the School of Art & Design, arranged with help from the staff . If I had to give advice to new students, it would be; take all the opportunities given to you and use it in the best way that you can.

Opportunities are available but you have to take them and act on the advice given.

The course here is well known in the industry for producing a high calibre of graduates. My choice of an MSc in Systems and Control Engineering was also based on my experience as an instrumentation and production operations technician in an oil and gas exploration and production company.

I believe the grounding I could obtain from the MSc programme at Coventry would help make me an invaluable asset to my employer.

I’m impressed with the content of the course as there’s so much exposure to the industry and the packages that we use are up to professional standard. I also think it’s great that professionals come in to talk to us throughout the course. I like the fact that we have an option to work in the industry as it gives us a chance to actually use what we’re taught.

The diversity of the course content, which also cuts across manufacturing, design and the production industry, ensures that I do acquire the skills set that allows me to easily switch between any industry of choice.

Part of my expectations of the diversity of the class, depth of lectures, content of the programme and the industrial ties enjoyed by the department has been fulfilled.

I took a Masters to help me understand how management was changing as a science. I wanted a course that would be versatile so that I could cover more aspects of the business of information management - Coventry is the only University to offer this type of course.

The diversity of the course, staff and students stand out as being some of the best things about Coventry. This course gives you enough background on business issues if you don’t have much experience of it beforehand. This means that we get to focus on all aspects of management without leaving anyone behind. The lecturers are approachable and happy to arrange meetings with us out of hours.

The best thing about the course is how the modules are cohesively structured and how knowledge from one module helps you understand another module. In addition the diversity of students in the class gives great insight into cultures and countries.

Following the course, I hope to do my PhD as well as continue with the consultancy work I am already doing.

I was studying Bio-medical science in London and some friends recommended the course here at Coventry so I did some research and it looked like the best course to apply for. I’m taking an MSc in Environmental Management. It’s a really good course, it’s taught well and the staff are really helpful.

I think it’s brilliant that the library stays open until late and that the open access suite in the Graduate Centre is available for postgraduates whenever we need it. I like the fact that we have our own spacious centre to study in where we have all of our lectures and resources for both study and relaxation.

The lecturers are helpful and approachable. The best thing is that they are all easy to contact as they have surgery hours in which they can see you. They are also quick to replying emails.

All lectures are taught at good pace and we are given reasonable time scales for submitting coursework. So far I’m enjoying it, and learning lots as most of the modules are new.

After the course I plan to work as an environmental consultant in an oil firm in Africa or work with an Environmental Agency here in the UK. However, to increase my opportunities in the employment market, I plan on taking courses and exams with institutions such as the British Health and Safety Institution and NEBOSH - The National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health.

The course is very challenging. You need to really set your mind to it. When you establish what is expected of you, things become easier and you can really start to enjoy the course.

As for the facilities, I love the fact that we have an open access computer room which is open 24 hours. So you can still do what you like during the day and study late at night. Another good thing about Coventry is that house rents are really affordable.
