The IPR team is available to attend scheduled lectures or staff meetings (subject to availability) to supply a presentation on what Intellectual Property is, the University's IP Policy for staff and students and the support available to exploit IP. See the 'NEWS' page for dates.
Thinking about going onto Dragons Den?

If your idea derives from your University study/work, it is legally owned by the University and you should therefore disclose their idea to the IPR team via the IP Disclosure Process, either to obtain support, IP protection or to arrange reassignment

Their idea must be ‘business ready’ – the Dragons Den team are unlikely to shortlist it if it is not.

FUNDING SCHEME FOR IDEAS
Coventry University have secured funding to support innovation and inventions which have the potential to be successful commercial products or processes in the future. Ten grants up to £5,000 each are available to all staff and students at Coventry University for the next 3 years.
These small grants can be used to:
- Build demonstrators to showcase new ideas
- Protect the Intellectual Property through Patent, Design or Trade Mark registration
- Contribute to larger development projects as eligible contributing funds, like the Advantage Proof of Concept Fund
Is it a simple application process ?
Yes, it's been made fast and simple to apply for, the process is outlined below
Step 1. Complete the
Intellectual Property Disclosure form or from the Business Development Support Office (BDSO) and return to ipr@coventry.ac.uk
Step 2. the Application will be reviewed by a panel of staff from the Business Development Group, and a decision made to approve or not the application within 14 days of receipt
Step 3. Each applicant will receive notification of the scope and amount of funding to be allocated if successful, or reasons if unsuccessful
Regardless of the funding provided the commercialisation and development of ideas will be dealt with by experienced business development advisors with expertise in the relevant sector.
