Damian Skiedrzyński took an internship with BOC Vienna
My internship was targeted at helping in the integration of web security checking into the software development lifecycle. I was responsible for testing the software, as well as programming the environment to integrate web security checking. My tasks also involved the evaluation of security testing software.
The overall impression is mostly positive. In spite of gaining a lot of experience in technical background my communication skills increased significantly. The company has a very good working atmosphere and the employees are helpful. What is more, the company makes business on international level and is involved in many international projects.
As far as the city is concerned, Vienna is one of best cities to live in, with a well-organized infrastructure and transportation. Not to mention its historical background which was an inspiration for many museums and art galleries. Vienna is also a city of classical music and many popular artists come here to give concerts.
I gained a lot of experience when it comes to the technical skills – programming, testing of software, security in web applications. Moreover, my communication skills increased because of the constant contact with international environment I was exposed to. My command of German improved significantly. I benefited as well from the internship when it comes to time management skills and self-organisation. I am more self-assured and more confident with the formal working environment. I also became more aware of cultural differences, the knowledge of which is of a paramount importance today.
I can advise the future participants to benefit more from the social activities that the company organises. Furthermore, as a employee you should challenge yourself and other people around you being tolerant and helpful at the same time. This will allow you to gain a lot of experience and foster good relationships which are invaluable after the end of your placement.
