Linguae Mundi

The International Experience and Mobility Service (IEMS) in conjunction with the well-resourced Languages Centre and language specialists from the Department of English and Languages (DEL) operate an ambitious, university-wide foreign language provision programme - Linguae Mundi.
Native speakers of Dutch, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Polish, Portuguese, Greek, Russian, Chinese (Mandarin), Arabic and Hindi are first recruited from the student population and are later trained for eight weeks by an experienced language teacher to effectively become trainee tutors themselves.
The language tutoring takes place on campus between February and June each year to help with preparations for working and studying abroad within the Leonardo da Vinci, Erasmus or International Experience schemes which Coventry University students and staff are encouraged to undertake. The classes are delivered on weekdays at convenient hours (early evening) to allow learners to attend regardless of their mode of study or time of work. The course finishes with the award of Certificate in Foreign Language Training for the tutors, and in itself constitutes a gre
at experience for trainees.
The training programme also includes English language provision for postgraduate international students at Coventry University in order to help them gain work or volunteering experience in the UK.
The Linguae Mundi programme also helps non-UK students find language-related work opportunities with local and regional organisations. Such opportunities include translation, interpretation and teaching.
