Disability Support
The Disabilities Office is based in TheHub and has a team of staff who can provide advice and support on a range of issues that you may need help with.
Academic and support staff work in partnership and aim to create an environment where disabled students are able to take an active role in the educational and social activities available at the University. Within each School/Faculty a Learning Support Co-ordinator is assigned to co-ordinate disability provision. They offer support and advice on curriculum issues, and by attending and organising training sessions, ensure that academic and support staff are aware of their responsibilities towards students with disabilities.
Before you apply
We recognise that there are a number of additional issues that disabled students have to face in their transition into higher education and at the admissions stage. You might not think its necessary to declare your disability at the application stage, but we know from experience that it’s much better all round if you do! That way we can prepare for your arrival and try to solve any potential difficulties before they arise.
Depending on the nature of your disability, we will look at ways in which adjustment to certain aspects of the course can be made, should that be appropriate. If you are asked to come for an interview prior to making an offer, or to visit us for an Open Day, we can make sure that your access requirements are met in advance. We can then provide the following practical support:
- An individual visit to the University to see the campus
- Information regarding Disabled Students' Allowances (for UK students)
- Liaising with staff from the School or Departments where appropriate
- Liaising with Student Finance England and Social Services departments where necessary (for UK students)
- Organisation of appropriate accommodation according to your needs
There are different funding arrangements in place for non-UK students which will affect the support you can access so it is important that any European or International students contact us early on in the application process.
Partner Colleges
If you are interested in a Coventry University course that is being offered at a partner college, you are advised to contact the Disabilities Adviser at that college and ask for details of the support that is available. Some of the facilities, such as accommodation, may vary from those offered on the main campus.
