Shakespeare Theatre Trip to Stratford-upon-Avon
An optional trip has been scheduled for EATAW 2009 conference delegates and their guests to enjoy a performance by the Royal Shakespeare Company of William Shakespeare’s play, As You Like It, at the Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon. The trip will take place on the evening of 1 July 2009 and will include coach service to and from Stratford-upon-Avon, a pre-theatre dinner at the Holiday Inn Stratford, and the performance at the Courtyard Theatre.
The RSC and the Courtyard Theatre The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) is one of the most famous classical theatre companies in the world. The 1,000-seat Courtyard Theatre, opened in July 2006, is enabling the RSC to continue performing in Stratford-upon-Avon during redevelopment work at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, which is scheduled for completion in 2010. The Courtyard Theatre’s stage configuration is a prototype for the redeveloped Royal Shakespeare Theatre, and the Courtyard Theatre is currently the RSC’s main theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon.
The Performance One of Shakespeare’s great comedies, As You Like It subverts the traditional rules of romance, confusing gender roles, nature and politics in a play that reflects on how bewildering yet utterly pleasurable life can be. When two young people fall in love they are unable to act on their impulse. Uncertain of their standing in court and fearing for their lives, Rosalind and Orlando are forced into exile in the Forest of Arden only to become entangled in a beguiling game of love, lust and mistaken identity.
Details of the Trip Coaches will collect delegates at 5:15pm from the steps of Coventry Cathedral and will return there following the performance. The journey to Stratford will take approximately 40 minutes. A pre-theatre buffet dinner will be served at the Holiday Inn Stratford, which is in walking distance of the Courtyard Theatre in the town centre of Stratford-upon-Avon.
Price for the Trip £64.00 per person
