Fieldwork

The Department of Geography, Environment and Disaster Management is committed to high quality fieldcourses. They allow students to study in new environments and takes them out of the comfort zone of a lecture room or library.

Fieldwork will challenge and inspire you as important lessons are to be learned and satisfaction gained from planning and delivering projects as part of a team. Most of our trips are residential so that you learn the benefits of good group dynamics and there are many essential skills that can only be developed by practice in the field.

How to get the most out of your fieldwork

To get the most out of  fieldwork it is important that you identify clear objectives and plan your time carefully.  All our trips are accompanied by preparatory sessions in Coventry and include comprehensive debriefing sessions that reward you for your efforts in the field.

As a sign of how much we value the field experience our fieldwork trips are heavily subsidised to ensure that everyone participates equally and benefits accordingly.

Destinations for fieldwork include:

As an undergraduate you might conduct social surveys in Africa, log cliff sections and map the geomorphology of the Jurassic coast, or set up a refugee camp in inhospitable terrain.
