I studied a two-year BTEC National Diploma in Forensic Science and decided to continue with the subject. There aren’t many universities where I could study this, and I was advised by a friend that Coventry was a good option, so I came along to have a look at the labs and decided to apply.

I have a full workload already. I’m taking an Add+vantage module in photography so I don’t have much spare time. Through the University's teaching and support I hope to go straight into a job in forensic science when I graduate.

I like Coventry city, it seems a lot smaller than Cambridge where I grew up. It was easy to get used to it here, and I met lots of friends on different courses through my flat mates so I’m settling in nicely.

My key interest outside of my study is music. I’m learning to play the guitar at the moment in the little free time that I have. I’m really enjoying it.

Forensics

Faculty of Health and Life Sciences

I chose this course because forensics is a growth industry around the world. It is also an exciting subject and never repetitive. From a more personal perspective I was interested in studying abroad and in doing something that is not offered in my own country. The reason I specifically chose to study the course at Coventry University is that it combines the science with a more sociological perspective.

I really enjoyed the workshops and tutorials on the Forensic Science module, where I learned how to take fingerprints and how to analyse blood splatter. I found the tutors to be helpful and supportive on all matters.

As a second year student I will wait until the end of the year before I decide on my career path, especially because of the module I will be taking called “Careers for Forensic Investigators” which offers a weekly guest speaker who will come in to talk us about their career. I know I would like to work in the field of law enforcement but am not exactly sure of which specific area just yet.

The fact that both the city of Coventry and the University offer an open minded environment to all cultures and all people makes it a “delicious” social experience.

My experience at Coventry University gets better and better as each days go by.

At first, being a first year, you get nervous wondering if you’ll fit in, or make any friends but it really has been so easy at Coventry due to the friendliness of both students and staff.

Lectures have boosted my confidence and I already feel that I am a more experienced grown up person. I have learnt so much, in so little time and I cannot wait for my next years to come.

I have been lucky enough to secure a work placement with local sports marketing company Oaks Consultancy at the end of my second year.

For my third year I’ll be studying at the University of Valencia which will add to my knowledge of Sport Marketing from a completely different perspective. This would not have been possible without the support of the Sport and Event Management staff.

The Sport Management programme offers a great structure. It is structured full-time over three years, and four if you want to take on a placement year.

I decided that I would like to do a placement year on my course and was very lucky to get two.

My first placement was with Sporting Futures in Coventry this included youth work and coaching sporting sessions. I then attended a three month placement with the New York Red Bulls where I was able to travel and live in New York coaching football in the community, this placement offered me the opportunity to meet a lot of new people including the famous footballer Thierry Henry.

To future applicants I would definitely recommend this course who is looking for the whole university experience. The course is well structured and there is a lot of support from academics and staff in the Faculty. It is overall a very worthwhile course that really brings out your true potential and ambition to strive further.
